Just Cavalli Spring 2009 Just Cavalli Spring 2009 Just Cavalli Spring 2009 Roberto Cavalli's 2009 Spring collection displayed platform sandals, sequins, and big-time costume baubles. The show's "Back to Nature" title were recognized in leopard and zebra prints, but even they were done up in candy-colored silks. Some of the dresses and t's had macro-prints of the faces of Roberto and his wife, Eva.

Just Cavalli Spring 2009

The little bit of this, little bit of that approach gave the show an I-just-nicked-this-from-my-mom's-closet vibe, totally in keeping with the way young girls dress today. The designers may have indulged their wacky side, but chances are that's just the way their customers like it.

Christian Dior Spring 2009 Christian Dior Spring 2009 Christian Dior Spring 2009  Christian Dior Spring 2009

John Galliano's 2009 spring collection displayed corseted waists, pointy bras, Lycra leggings, and body-conscious knitted dresses. The pictures above are some of the more subtle and wearable pieces.

This collection the people Galliano seem to be aiming at are the young, hollywood set. The Christian Dior shoe and handbag collection for this season were fabulous, so what happened with the clothes? Ultimately, there was no shaking off the impression that this clothing collection lacked the creative fire of John Galliano at his best.

Dolce and Gababba Spring 2009 Dolce and Gababba Spring 2009

I love these Dolce and Gabanna silky suits for Spring. Silk is my absolute favorite material in hot weather, because it's light, but still protects somewhat from sun exposure. These do look kind of pajama-y, but classy never the less.

Dolce and Gababba Spring 2009 Dolce and Gababba Spring 2009This dress looks alot like the ribbed corset dresses they did the last few seasons, but it's a great design.

 Dolce and Gababba Spring 2009

From the New Yorker: "Dolce & Gabbana’s aesthetic is anything but coy: They will gleefully squeeze as much excess as is humanly possible into each show-stopping piece, whether a jacket, dress, or suit. “Dolce & Gabbana aren’t subtle,” says Andrew Bolton, associate curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. “They design blatant statements. Yet they also have a huge sense of irony and whimsy.” After their first collection launched to international acclaim in 1986, the brand soon expanded to knitwear, beachwear, lingerie and accessories; today, they have two main clothing lines—the couture Dolce & Gabbana and the younger, more informal D&G. Earning remarkable financial success (despite the prevalence of fraudulent D&G merchandise), the designers’ way with a corset has become emblematic of their love of va-va-voom dressing—and their awesome tailoring talents."

Donna Karen Spring/Summer 2009

80's luxe was the look at Donna Karan's Spring/Summer collection—heavy silks were draped into shoulder-heavy dresses in metallic neutrals. Carefully placed gems added sparkle to molten gold minidresses, that, when layered with silken vests and jackets, made for an easy but luxurious view of the spring season. Very elegant, light and bright.

DSquared Spring/Summer 2009

I love these evening dresses from DSquared Spring 2009 Collection. Obviousely not everyone can wear a dress like this, but if you can, rock it. They are all very sexy with the very high slit, and that's what I like. You see alot of leg, but just one leg, and only the front. The dress on the far right is my favorite.

From Time Magazine - "Frida Giannini's multifold genius at Gucci comes from her gut--she knows the brand so well that channeling its vibe has become an instinctive, natural reaction. This season, she offered up hit after hit that's guaranteed to please the slew of Gucci-ites who clamor for the brand's latest release. "It was an exotic tour in Acapulco, the Americas, Miami," Giannini explained after the show. "It was interesting to bring back the idea of the tailoring from menswear and mix it with a shorter, softer silhouette. The common idea of the entire collection is the prints and the color, which are so strong. It is all in the same attitude." There were Hawaiian-print capris, modernized with a graphic palm and bird-of-paradise motif, alongside safari gear. All was heavily accented with gold hardware and bright bags, of course. Accessory editors giddily sketched the royal blue leather backpack and bondage platforms (is three ankle straps enough?). A parade of floor-length chiffon gowns in lavender, cerulean and various prints ended the show, as Rihanna looked on in apparent ecstasy. Giannini is a designer, sure, but she's also a saleswoman--in the most lucrative way possible. And this season, Gucci's fans will reap the rewards."

If there was any designer at fashion Week that successfully showcased wearable, beautiful clothes, it was Giorgio Armani. While some other designers make very odd or just plain ugly designs, in the name of "art", Armani consistently brings us desirable fashion. I love how these clothes are sexy in a subtle, conceal-to-reveal theme that made this season his sexiest one in ages. Nearly every piece exudes a particular brand of glamour and chic sophistication. The silk pantsuit is going to be big next spring, based on the many designers showcasing their versions at Fashion Week, and Armani's sheer version is sure to be seen in the Hollywood set.

Charles Chang-Lima

Published 9/26/2008 by Admin in Curvy Figures

Plus-size sounds so, well, fat. But really I would say "full figured" is more accurate. I think the women pictured in this post are not fat. So, this gets us to a designer, Charles Chang-Lima, who is creating high fashion just for women sizes 12-20. I think that's great, because typically haute couture only goes up to size 8, so voluptious fashion lovers get slim pickings.

Above left, this stretch crepe sheath ($1,395) is flatteringly draped and it makes her feel "totally unconstrained and totally pulled together". - quote from the model.

Above right, appropriate for an ample bust, the satin organza dress offers upper-arm coverage, while flattering the figure.

A formfitting skirt or jersey tee can be surprisingly sensuous when you've got an honest-to-God female body to show off. The pinstriped skirt ($695) and floral silk shirt ($1,050), unbuttoned for a glimpse of black lace bra, left, are "very 'sexy secretary,'" Julia (the model) says. "I would totally wear this to work." This silk satin skirt ($1,050), (left), has stitched-down pleats (the slimming kind); a crepe-knit top ($775) is stabilizing for the well-endowed because the dense material "makes you feel like you have another layer of support," says account executive Ida Schaefer (right model), 27. Black with burgundy is a nearly monochromatic pairing that ensures a sleek, continuous line.

The cropped satin faille jacket ($1,225) on 30-year-old Amy Chiang, a management consultant, could be described as fierce. Wide-legged, high-waisted trousers ($1,025) are a must-get for fall, says Chang-Lima: "They give the illusion of length."

This two-in-one sateen coat reversing to cozy bouclé has stylishly short, wide sleeves that invite layering, perhaps with bright gloves (Coach). It won't look bulky if you balance the volume with narrow pants ($725), as Ida has done here. A dependable everyday piece, this coat also cleans up nicely for night with a patent leather and suede clutch (Cole Haan).

Les Chiffoniers Sequin leggings Les Chiffoniers Sequin leggings

Sequin pants, or any shiny pants for that matter, never look good on unless you are a size double zero, like the above mannequin. These are Les Chiffoniers Sequin leggings. I think this outfit is very hot, but I couldn't pull it off. I once had a gorgeous pair of skin tight Betsy Johnson metallic snakeskin pants, and I was a size zero at the time and they made me look fat. No, I'm not anorexic, nor did I have an unrealistic body perception. They made me look fat. For some reason shiny pants seem to add size to whomever is wearing them.

Posh Spice would look good in these pants. Do you like them? Available at Net a Porter, $815.

Donna Karen - In stores now

Published 9/25/2008 by Admin in Donna Karen

Donna Karen

Two things I love about this fall dress, the color and the cut out shoulders. Winter white is such a classic fall/winter color, especially in wool, as it is in this dress. There is something so sexy and feminine about cut out shoulders on a long sleeve dress, and the great thing is, it looks sexy on any body type. I love the gathered front (hides any bloat) and the tie to cinch the waist. And then there are the flared cuffs, creating a beautiful silhouette. I think this is a very feminine and beautiful design, and it's suitable for anyone age 20 to 80. This gorgeous dress is Donna Karen and it's available at Saks, $2,695.
